Our Mission:
To fund nature based camp experiences that enrich the lives of culturally and economically diverse San Diego youth.
Expanding horizons for San Diego youth—The Community Campership Council is financed by contributions from the community. Interested individuals, clubs, trusts, businesses, employee contribution organizations, foundations and corporations make annual gifts so that children who meet our guidelines can attend a Day Camp, Resident Camp, or Sixth Grade Outdoor School Camp.
Over fifty-eight percent of the individuals that we provide with camperships come from families with an income below the poverty line. Many of the children come from single parent families or are in a foster care home. It is hard to describe what it means to a child to experience the wonders of camp. Yes, there is a new world of forests and meadows, streams, crafts, games and learning, but Camp also provides life learning experiences, stepping stones on which to grow. A child gains self-confidence from mastering new skills and making new friendships. The effects can be incredible.
